Qualifications and Experience:
Required. Doctorate in Mathematics with commitment to developing expertise in social science research methods or doctorate in Mathematics Education with a documented strong background in mathematics; ABD will be considered provided dissertation defense is successfully completed before position start date and doctorate is received within one year of position start date. Strong potential for engaging in mathematics education research and commitment to working with in-service mathematics teachers are required. Candidate must provide evidence of experience and/or potential for teaching and educational research effectiveness.
Preferred. Experience teaching at the K-12 level, teaching and learning with diverse populations, and/or working with pre-service and in-service teachers is desirable, as is experience with grant writing. Preference may be given to candidates who demonstrate knowledge of and experience with current trends in middle or secondary school mathematics education or mathematics teacher leader development.
Position Description:
One-year postdoctoral fellow, non-tenure-track appointment with potential for renewal for a second year, in the School of Mathematical Sciences. Nine month academic year appointment with an additional two months of summer work expected (for additional pay). Primary responsibilities will be to support the work of the National Science Foundation funded Mathematics Teacher Leadership Center (Math TLC). The Math TLC is a collaboration between the University of Northern Colorado and the University of Wyoming. Duties will include:
- working with Colorado and Wyoming in-service mathematics teachers as they learn mathematics and pedagogy,
- engaging in basic, applied, and evaluative mathematics education research to support the research program of the Math TLC,
- working with mathematics and mathematics education faculty on the development and delivery of courses in the Master’s in Mathematics for Secondary Mathematics Teachers program jointly offered by the University of Northern Colorado and the University of Wyoming,
- working with mathematics and mathematics education faculty to build and implement a program for K-12 mathematics teacher leaders.
This position includes active mentoring by Math TLC staff for the post-doc in (a) mathematics education research, (b) the professional development of mathematics teachers and teacher leaders, and (c) the use of distance delivery technologies for teaching mathematics and mathematics education. This position also includes the potential for a teaching assignment of up to one mathematics or mathematics education course per semester.
Salary and Benefits:
Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Benefits available include health, life, and dental insurance, as well as a selection of several defined contribution retirement programs. Dependents and spouses of UNC employees who are employed as 0.5 FTE or above are entitled to and eligible for Dependent Tuition Grants. These tuition grants will cover in-state tuition charges. Further requirements may exist. Other benefits may be available based on position.
